For many years she was held under house arrest. However, on her release, she led the National League for Democracy and serves as the first and incumbent State Counsellor, a position akin to a Prime Minister. Fromshe has come under international criticism for failing to stem the persecution of the Rohingya people in Rakhine State on the border with Malaysia.

She is the third child in her family. Her father, Aung San, was instrumental in negotiating independence from Britain in He also founded the Burmese army and was assassinated by political rivals in late After Oxford University, she worked for the United Nations for three years. She was not granted to leave her country when her husband was dying.

Felt so sorry for her. But with her will power and strong faith in Buddhism. Till now she is still working hard to make her country a better place and for the benefit of her people. She suffered not being able to leave her house arrest to be with her dying husband, inability to see her sons and constant house arrest and loss of freedom.

Her tenacity is due to her belief and influence by Buddhism, to feel privileged to suffer for the sake of fellow human beings. Extremely inspirational. Though stands only at five foot,four inches and weigh only a hundred pounds,she is one tough lady ,who challenged one of the most repressive regime in the world! She usually appears in public with flowers pinned behind her ears, but her gentle manners take nothing away from her tremendous conviction.

An author of several books,a mother and a wife! Truly admirable and amazing! Her fearlessness came from the love for her people. She was denied to meet anybody for the last 15 years. After all these years she kept herself calm and fresh to the outside world. No bitterness, miserable and whatsoever. What a strong and tough lady she is. A lady who has high integrity, who kept her promise to her people.

For her to be able move on she put herself into the palm of the buddha. Her spiritual practice had gave her the strength to move on. Confort zone and difficult Path. Also her filial piety to her deceased father. I was very happy that she was finally released in and is safe. How true, if we cannot confront the past, how can we come to terms with ourselves and be happy.

On a bigger picture what she has done and is still doing is something that all must learn how to live our lives in benefitting others.

It is hard for a wife and mother to forsake her instincts of being one and stayed in Burma not seeing her sons grow and husband die. May she succeed in all her undertakings and may the other world leaders be supportive of her. She is able to put aside her personal wants with such overwhelming love for her country and people. How many wives and mothers are able to be separated from their husband and children, for the sake of their country, and do it with such grace and dignity?

Her sacrifices will not be in vain, they will inspire future generations to come and touch the hearts of the world. For that love she sacrificed seeing her husband and kids for so many years. All she wanted for her country are peace, harmony and happiness. May she achieve what she stood for all those years and help Myanmar be better. How many of us can be so selfless to sacrifice our family for others? She was asked why into politic? I learnt from her diligent and never give up personality and willingess to sacrifice for other beings without asking for any reward.

I think her extremely strong and positive inner strength developed with deep understanding and practising of dharma which also helped her in overcoming all the challenges and obstacles. This is the one you should share with others when they are interested in a not too lengthy explanation. It is the perfect practice for everyone who wants simplicity yet effective blessings. We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complex than ours they moved finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear.

They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth. It is proved by experience. And furthermore, it gives one the opportunity to be born in the pure realm of Lama Tsongkhapa, Tushita, whenever death happens.

It was the best time of my life. A time that seems so magical and surreal to me. But Dharma should not be just feel good only for the moment but for deeper contemplations. That is the nature of samsara. So let us suffer for others and then suffering has meaning. Working for Dharma is not a prison or work, but it is purely spiritual practice.

It is purely collection of merit and purification. Actually not doing dharma work is the real prison. He stated that a happy, luxurious life was like a good dream, and that obstacles and difficulties were like a bad dream. We should give them no significance, but simply carry on working towards real, everlasting happiness. To walk away from that was actually very easy.

I didn't even consider it. Together we make diversity so beautiful. I find it funny and entertaining now. I guess we can't spend our lives fighting rumours No point explaining repeatedly. Patience comes from respect while laziness from disrespect of others. The more we get, the more we have, the more unhappy we become. When the experience we encounter contradicts our views, then the pain arises.

The pain arises due to our fixed views not so much the experience itself. So the secret is changing the views. Re-educating ourselves on our views. I wasn't really good at following the rules. Even now with how I share Dharma and my practice, I just do it the way I think it should be done but I do it sincerely. Not what others tell me what I can and can't do.

If you love me, I'll always be in your heart If you hate me, I'll always be in your mind. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency.
